The mourning ceremonies of Ashura (the tenth day of Muharram) has been held at mosques and other Islamic centers in capital Kabul and different cities of Afghanistan.
Followers of the infallible household of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took part in mourning ceremonies.
Abdullah Afzali, a member of Islamic Scholars Council of Afghanistan, made a speech on the lessons of Ashura and the uprising of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his entourage, underlining that the today's Islamic world can resolve its woes through following Imam Hussein's teachings.
Imam Hussein (PBUH) taught people that standing against tyranny and occupation is the way that can help save the world, Afzali added.
Other cities of Afghanistan, including Mazar-i-Sharif, Kandahar, Ghaznei, Herat, Bamian, Daikandi held mourning ceremonies on the occasion of Ashura event, which were participated by numerous people in a safe and secure manner.
Some Taliban officials took part in mourning ceremonies in Kabul and other cities and made speeches on the lessons of Ashura for Muslim nations.
This is the first holy month of Muharram, which is concurrent with the downfall of the Afghan government, when Taliban return to power in Afghanistan after 20 years.
Imam Hussein - the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) - and his entourage were martyred in Karbala, Iraq, on October 10, 680 (10th of Muharram 61 AH).
Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his 72 entourage confronted Yazid, the second Umayyad caliph, in 680 aimed at preserving the holy religion of Islam and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
